VIOXX® (rofecoxib), manufactured by Merck & Co., is an anti-inflammatory drug prescribed to relieve the pain of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and for the treatment of menstrual symptoms. VIOXX® was widely popular, used by nearly 20 million people, when Merck voluntarily recalled the drug because of researching demonstrating an increased risk of heart attacks and stroke.
