Unfair Debt Collection The Unfair Debt Collection Practices Act was enacted by Congress to regulate the collection practices of creditors. The law sets forth specific guidelines that must be followed by a creditor when it attempts to collect a debt owed by a consumer. For example, the creditor must inform the debtor that it is attempting to collect a debt and cannot engage in conduct that would constitute harassment. |
