Tax Levies
Tax levies are asserted by federal, state, county and municipal governments to collect delinquent taxes. Levies are very similar to tax liens; however, tax levies are usually applied against bank accounts, securities and other types of financial assets.
A properly executed tax levy entitles the government to seize the asset and apply it toward the payment of the delinquent tax and usually interest and penalties. Tax levies can be challenged but to do so, one must act promptly after receiving a "Notice of Levy."
