Mergers & Aquisitions

Mergers and acquisitions are transactions in which two or more businesses or companies combine to form a single enterprise. When companies merge, two or more companies come together and the result is one successor company. When there is an acquisition, one company or business is purchased by another company or buyer. A company can be acquired, i.e. purchased, and, as part of the transaction, a merger can take place. For example, Shell Oil Company purchased the Texaco Oil Company. As part of the transaction, Texaco was merged into Shell and the result was one oil company - known as Shell Oil Company.
