Insurance

Insurance law is based upon contract law - an insurance policy is a specialized contract between the insured and the insurance company. Disputes often arise under insurance contracts that necessitate the services of an attorney who is a specialist in insurance law. For example, the insurance company may deny coverage to an insured based upon the exclusionary language of the policy. This could occur in the case of a property casualty/liability policy or it could occur in the case of a health insurance or disability policy. With respect to life insurance, an insurance company may withhold the payment of insurance proceeds under a life insurance policy because the claim is incomplete.
