Civil Litigation
In some situations, the federal, state, county or municipal government is named as a defendant in a lawsuit. When the lawsuit involves a breach of contract claim, the suit usually proceeds like any other similar litigation. However, the claim involves personal injury or some other tort, special law may apply.
In the case of a tort claim against the United States government, such a claim implicated the Federal Tort Claims Act which regulates the adjudication of such claims against the federal government.
